The Player helps her realize that her objections to Aaliyah joining the program is another form of discrimination.

Aaliyah and her mother reach an understanding that Betty is always going to worry about her children and want to protect them, but she needs to let Aaliyah forge her own way in the world, in spite of the challenges she’ll face.
