Diving is the player’s ability to go underwater to clean up the trash and gain valuables from the sea. When diving, the player can find kelp, chests, pearls and other underwater scavenge items. Player can also heal the corals to earn Ocean Points that will contribute to Town Ranks.

Diving is unlocked on the 8th day of Spring when the player receives a letter instructing to meet at the dock.

Ocean points

Ocean Points are one way to increase Player's Town rank. Player can earn ocean points by cleaning the ocean floor from trash, healing corals, and healing ocean temple. A total of 1,000 Ocean points can be accumulated from these activities.

Activity Amount Points each item
Coral site healed

(The solar orb mechanic player encounter when diving)

85 10
All corals healed 1 100
Ocean temple healed 1 50

Healing Corals

To heal Coral Island's coral site, you must first obtain a diving suit. Once you have the diving suit, bring a scythe with you and dive deep into the ocean. Use the scythe to destroy any trash you come across until you find a solar orb.

Find solar Orbs

Click on the solar orb to return it to the healing mechanics. The healing mechanics will produce a healing line. You must destroy any obstacles in the way of the healing light. Once the light reaches the healing ward, it will blast off healing rays, cleaning the oil around that area.

Clean trash that block the light

Keep in mind that the healing rays can only remove oil roots and restore corals. They won't destroy trash.

Diving Mastery

The Diving skill pertains to all things having to do with navigating, cleaning trash, and harvesting resources on the sea floor. The efficiency of the player's diving tools is increased as they gain proficiency in their diving skill. Gaining levels also allows them to obtain new crafting recipes or points to spend in their diving tree. Increasing Diving mastery give player reward like crafting recipe, and diving proficiency.

Action Points
Clearing trash with a scythe 0.3-1 per pile
Cutting kelp with a scythe 1
Gathering a regular quality item 3
Gathering a bronze quality item 3.75
Gathering a silver quality item 4.5
Gathering a gold quality item 6
Gathering an osmium quality item 7.5

Diving process

Once diving is unlocked, the player can start their dive anytime between 6:00 and 23:00 by interacting with the boat at the Diving Pier. The player will have a choice to return to the location they have left the anchor last time they dived or reset the start location.

When underwater, the player will need to clear trash and debris on the ocean floor with their scythe to obtain resources and collect solar orbs. They can also catch underwater critters with their critter net, cut seaweed, or collect items that spawn on the ground.

When the player unearths a solar orb, they will need to activate it by picking it up and when clearing the way towards a pylon to heal nearby corals. Healing corals earns the player town rank points, improves the quality of fish caught, and progresses one of the main quests of the game. It can also open previously inaccessible underwater areas by cleaning the oil from the environment.

The player can leave the underwater area by interacting with the anchor. The anchor can be moved by pressing X and waiting until it drops.

Exit Diving

Every trash or debris pile can drop items when destroyed (up to a maximum of 3 items per pile).

Ocean Forageables & Critters

Main article : Forageable

Items found in the ocean stay the same regardless of the season, and instead change according to how deep underwater the player is. Unlike land forageable items, they give diving experience when picked up. Aside of Ocean forageables, player can also catch ocean critters, that can be donated to the Museum. Donating ocean critters will help increasing Town Rank.
