Introduction
When speaking to Rafael for the first time in a new game:
Rafael:
Oh... Hi there...
Rafael:
My name is Rafael.
Umm..
I'm one of the blacksmiths here in Starlet Town.
Umm..
I'm one of the blacksmiths here in Starlet Town.
Daily lines
General dialogue
Regular lines:
- Rafael:Getting the right weapon can really help with slaying certain monsters.
- Rafael:I like the cold wind. It feels good against my face after a whole day in front of the hot furnace.
- Rafael:Yes?
- Rafael:My brother and I can upgrade all kinds of tools.
You just need to bring us the ores.
And some compensation for our labor would be nice.
- Rafael:We only accept money as a form of payment. Sorry.
- Rafael:I'd best get back to work. My head's been in the clouds too these days.
- Rafael:I use my forge, my bellows, and my own two hands.
Sometimes, thought, I wish I had a little extra help.
Aside from Pablo, of course.
He's great.
- Rafael:When you upgrade your tools, they'll change color slightly.
it depends on the upgrade material.
Dont be alarmed. It's completely normal.
- Rafael:We get a lot of work from town.
Putting up decorations and stuff.
- Rafael:Oh no, I haven't had the time to visit the cemetery.
Maybe next Monday.
- Rafael:Pablo spend a lot of time in the garage, He seems to ALWAYS be calibrating his TV.
- Rafael:These days I feel like I've lost my wits. I need to get my head out of the clouds.
- Rafael:Maybe I need a vacation. Get away from the forge for a bit.
- Rafael:Legend has it you can make some really incredible stuff, with the right ore.
- Rafael:I'm not doing anything special today. It's just another Thursday for me. What about you?
- Rafael:Open pretty much every day, but the store closes early tomorrow.
And we're closed on Sundays.
- Rafael:We'll keep working nonstop if we don't keep a schedule. Not good...
- Rafael:I should start gardening. I've been relying too much on nature lately.
I've only been gathering mushrooms, and I'm getting tired of those things...
- Rafael:Yuck.
- Rafael:Valentina is a great kid. I feel like Antonio is a bit too hard on her sometimes.
But I'm not a parent, so...
- Rafael:She's the daughter of my cousin, Antonio.
Yeah, she calls me and Pablo "uncle," even though we're not her dad's actual brothers. It's kind of a thing in our family... I don't know.
It's not weird at all for me.
- Rafael:I'd best get back to work. My head's been in the clouds too much these days.
- Rafael:Umm.. After work, I usually just cook dinner or something. I don't know.
Did that answer your question?
- Rafael:No, I don't really go to the Tavern.
I go to the lake sometimes if I need to relax.
- Rafael:There are a lot of explorers coming to town these days.
A few come into the shop, looking for weapons or tools. Just like you.
- Rafael:Right.... right! Tourists.
Some of'em have some pretty wild stories...
- Rafael:I tried carpentry, but it's not for me.
I can make small things or fix a cabinet, but building a whole house is too much.
- Rafael:Joko and Dinda are top-notch carpenters, anyways.
I don't think the market here is big enough for another carpenter if I wanted to be one.
- Rafael:I smelt ores all day sometimes. *sigh* So please don't mind my dirty clothes.
- Rafael:It's easy to lose track of time. Smelting ores is such a mundane job.
My body immediately goes into autopilot.
- Rafael:I like peace and quiet.
Oh, you too? Well, we're kind of the same, then. Is that why you moved into your grandparents' farm?
- Rafael:Something in common, eh?
- Rafael:I hope Stephen's claw grows back real soon so he can go back to exploring the sea.
- Rafael:Oh! Umm... Stephen is Macy's adopted lobster.
- Rafael:We're closed today. The store also closes early on Saturdays.
Family day for us.
- Rafael:Ever since you moved here, Sam has much more variety in his store.
- Rafael:My parents aren't natives of Coral Island.
They came here when they were young, with two of my uncles from Dulca Island.
- Rafael:Dulca Island is very far from here.
Growing up, our parents used to take Pablo and me there to see our grandparents. But, you know, not too often.
- Rafael:I tend to spend too much on things I don't need at the fair.
- Rafael:They make a stop here every year before going down south.
- Rafael:Yeah, he's part of it. But I think Ben stays here, in Coral Island.
Only travels once a year.
- Rafael:Hot air balloon rides terrify me... but I would like to try someday.
- Rafael:And... my stomach hurts thinking about it.
- Rafael:I think I have the ingredients to make ramen tonight.
Gonna eat it in my room and watch funny videos on my tablet.
- Rafael:There is so much trash around this island.
I go to the river? Trash.
I visit my niece at the beach? Trash.
- Rafael:Some people. *sighs*
Seasonal lines
Spring
- Rafael:I hope it starts raining soon.
The bushes need water.
Summer
- Rafael:The majority of the trash here drifted from sea. Can you imagine what it's like where this trash came from?
Fall
- Rafael:Fall has to be my favorite season.
I'm lucky to live here. It's easy to go out and enjoy nature whenever I want to.
- Rafael:I wonder what films are coming out this Fall.
I like the ones with jump scares. Just nice classic horror films with ghosts.
- Rafael:I'm looking forward towards Betty's homemade mooncakes. They're always the highlight of Fall for me.
- Rafael:It's still too warm to spend all day in front of the furnace.
But at least the wind is pretty cool.
- Rafael:Gonna spend the weekend nights watching Fall films with ghosts...
Even better, ghosts from folk tales. What are you gonna do?
- Rafael:I wonder what Beluga Bay will be showing at this year's Harvest Festival...
Winter
- Rafael:I like the cold wind. It feels good against my face after a whole day exposed to the hot furnace.
- Rafael:The snow helps me build up a resistance to cold weather.
- Rafael:This Winter is a little dry.
My hands hurt if I wish them too much. But it's nothing unbearable.
It's okay...
- Rafael:I forgot to close my bedroom windows the other day before going to work... and my bed froze.
Well, yeah... No, it wasn't actually frozen. It was just really cold.
Um.. sorry.
- Rafael:Winter coats are hard to wash.
They're very thick. They take a long time to dry.
- Rafael:Are you warm? Make sure to stay warm okay?
- Rafael:Winter is nice... I like it.
- Rafael:Winter is a great time to upgrade your tools. That way you can be prepared for a busy Spring.
- Rafael:If I get too hot, I just step outside and let the Winter air cool me down.
I can do that now... because it's Winter.
Location-specific lines
- At the cemetery
- Rafael:Sometimes I come here to read a book. It's nice and quiet.
What are you doing here?Rafael:I'm just cleaning up a bit of moss on the stone.
- Out getting tacos
- Rafael:It feels good to be outside every once in a while.
The shop is way to hot sometimes. - Rafael:Oh, umm... I came here for some tacos.
I'm not in the mood to cook anything - Rafael:I'm going back to work after this.
- In his shop
- Rafael:Upgrading a tool, Player?
- Rafael:In my downtime, I sometimes mine for some ores in the cavern to make weapons.
You can always count on our store if you need ores right away. - Rafael:I need to go back to work.Rafael:There are weapons that I've made...weapons that I can't sell, because they failed the safety test.
But maybe I can show them to you sometime.
- In the inn
- Rafael:Taco lived here for several weeks.
Then Suki brought him over to Luke's for a playdate, and the puppy refused to come back.
So Taco lives there now. - Rafael:I don’t take orders outside of the shop.
If you want to get your tools upgraded, come by to the shop tomorrow, will you? - Rafael:You can always tell when my brother walks into a room.
Any room, really... Conversations seem to get livelier, don’t they?
When Pablo tells jokes, my parents laugh harder, you know... Simple stuff like that.
People don’t notice, but I do.
Weather-specific lines
Rainy weather
- Rafael:Oh no! I need to dry off my boots. Mud everywhere!
- Talk to Rafael again
- Rafael:Oh well.
Rare lines
Very rare random dialogue:
- Rafael:It hurts to see my dad smile wider when introducing Pablo, my mom’s constant praise of Pablo's good look.
And the joke that I was adopted stings, it stung then when I was 8 and it still does now millions of years later.

Sorry… um…
Events
After the five heart event
- Rafael:Purifying the tevandium will be hard, player. I'm not even sure I can do it. But I have to try!
- Rafael:I hate to be pessimistic, but I'm starting to doubt the explorer is going to return with that tevandium, Player.
- Rafael:What if the explorer decided to keep all the tevandium for himself?
I just realized he never told me where the cave was, exactly... - Rafael:Maybe I shouldn't have paid half up front.
- Rafael:I'm still having a hard time removing the impurities from the tevandium.
- Rafael:If I can't remove them, I'm wondering if I can just go ahead and make the Ironeye Hammer anyways.
- Rafael:The Ironeye Hammer isn't the only tool you can make with tevandium. Just the most famous.
- Rafael:I can't help but let my wind wander.
- Rafael:The Greatstone Amulet, the Firestarter's Axe... this could change the entire shop.
- Rafael:The entire island!
- Rafael:According to legend, the Ironeye Hammer also speaks to you while it works!
I wonder if it knows any jokes. - Rafael:I'd be a fool to put my trust in the Ironeye Hammer.
It works by iteself, but the legends don't say wether it's a good worker. - Rafael:Does it get tired? Does it take personal days?
The legends are mysteriously silent on these issues.
